🤍 What is Variegation?

Definition: A mutation that causes parts of the leaf to lack chlorophyll - making them white, pink, or yellow
Types: Stable (genetic) or unstable (can disappear) variegation
Albo: Pure white - the most sought-after and expensive
Thai Constellation: Stable creamy spots - very popular
Sport: A random mutation that can appear on any plant
Light: Variegated plants need more light because they have less green surface area for photosynthesis
Growth: They grow slower than the green version
Price: Variegation is the reason some plants cost thousands of shekels

🌡️ Optimal growing conditions

Humidity: 60%-80% - invest in a humidifier or a pebble tray with water
Temperature: 18-28 degrees Celsius - avoid direct AC and cold
Lighting: Bright indirect light - no direct sun that burns
Medium: Airy and well-draining soil - aroid mix recommended!
Watering: When the top part of the soil is dry - do not flood
Fertilizing: Diluted balanced fertilizer, every two weeks in spring-summer
Misting: Daily misting or humidifying to maintain humidity
Air circulation: Gentle airflow prevents fungal diseases

🎯 Easy tropicals for beginners

Philodendron Brasil: Green leaves with a yellow stripe - hard to kill
Monstera Adansonii: The famous holes, grows fast and is forgiving
Syngonium: Variety of colors, climbing or trailing, easy to care for
Variegated Pothos: N'Joy, Marble Queen - beautiful and hardy
Hoya Carnosa: Hardy, blooms, and almost impossible to kill
Maranta: Painted leaves, "Prayer Plant" - fairly forgiving
Aglaonema: Amazing colors, tolerates low light
Calathea Roseopicta: Relatively easy for its family

⚠️ Common mistakes in growing tropicals

Low humidity: The main cause of brown edges and dry leaves
Direct sun: Burns sensitive leaves, especially variegated ones
Heavy soil: Causes root rot - must use well-draining medium!
Cold water: Water only with room temperature water
Direct AC: Cold, dry air - a tropical killer
Lack of patience: Tropicals grow slowly - give them time
Impulse buying: Check if you have the conditions before purchasing
Ignoring signs: Treat problems immediately before they spread

🔧 Common problems and solutions

Brown edges: Increase humidity - humidifier, pebble tray, misting
Yellow leaves: Check watering - usually too much water
Curling leaves: Low humidity or thirst - check both
Brown spots: Likely direct sun or fungus - move and isolate
Slow growth: Normal in winter, in summer check light and fertilizer
Loss of variegation: Needs more light - move to a brighter spot
Root rot: Remove, cut off the rotten parts, repot in fresh soil
Pests: Mites, aphids - treat with potassium soap or neem oil

Nursery pro tip

The secret to humidity: Instead of misting all the time, group your tropical plants together - they create a humid micro-climate between them! Another tip: Place the pots on a tray with pebbles and water (without the pot touching the water) - natural evaporation that raises humidity. And of course - aroid mix is a must for healthy roots!
