🐘
Why "Elephant Ear"? The leaves can reach a size of a meter or more — truly the size of an elephant's ear. The plant originates from the rainforests of Southeast Asia, where it grows at the base of giant trees. At home, it will fill any room with a dramatic, tropical presence. It grows fast and produces a new leaf almost every month under good conditions — a spectacular experience to witness.
☀️ Light — More resistant than the variegated version ▼

The green elephant ear is more resistant to varying light conditions than the variegated variety — every leaf is full of chlorophyll and can utilize every ray of light. It also grows in partial shade.

At home: A southern or eastern window is ideal. A western window works too.

In the garden: Excellent for partially shaded corners — under a tree, or on the north side of a wall. No direct noon sun — it will burn the leaves.

💧 Watering — Loves consistent moisture ▼

Alocasia Odora loves moist soil — but cannot stand standing water. Correct watering: Water deeply when the top few centimeters begin to dry out. In summer — every 5–7 days. In winter — every 10–14 days.

Sign that it is thirsty: The stems lose firmness and the "shoulders" of the plant droop. That is the moment to take the watering can and water deeply.

Guttation: Sometimes you will see water droplets on the leaf edges in the morning — this is completely normal. The plant is "sweating" excess water.

🌱 Soil and Repotting ▼

Soil: A well-draining mixture — indoor potting soil with perlite (30%) and optionally vermiculite (15%). The Alocasia loves humidity but not standing water.

Growth: The plant grows very fast — it may require repotting every year during the growing season. When you see roots peeking out of the drainage holes, it's time for a larger pot.

Propagation: Alocasia Odora produces small "baby" corms at its base — these can be separated and planted individually in another pot.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the plant suitable for beginners? +
Yes — the green elephant ear is much more forgiving than the variegated variety. It is resistant to changing home conditions, grows fast, and forgives imprecise watering. Suitable for those who want a large and dramatic plant without excess complexity.
The plant "sleeps" in the winter — what should I do? +
In the winter, the plant enters a resting phase — it grows slowly and might drop a leaf or two. This is completely normal. Reduce watering by half, stop fertilizing completely, and don't panic if it remains with a few leaves. In the spring, it will return to growing vigorously.
What is the difference between Variegated and Green Alocasia? +
The Odora is distinguished by rounder leaves with slightly wavy edges and lighter stems. The Macrorrhiza has sharper, glossier leaves. Both are large and dramatic, but the Odora is considered more resistant and adaptable to indoor conditions.
Does the plant come in a pot? +

The plant arrives in a plastic grower's pot — and our recommendation is to leave it there for the first month to allow for acclimation. Afterward, you can move it to a decorative pot.

We have a large selection of decorative pots and planters in the store — you can add them to your order.
