✅ Safe for pets!
According to the ASPCA, Variegata and the entire bromeliad family are non-toxic to dogs and cats. The soft leaves are also not physically dangerous (unlike bromeliads with spiky leaves). A great choice for a home with pets!
💡 Pro tip
What happens after flowering? A rhizome blooms once and then slowly dies - but don't throw it away! It produces "pups" at the base that become new plants. When the pup reaches a third of the size of the mother, it can be separated and planted separately. Trick for filling the cup: use rainwater or distilled water - hard water with chlorine can be harmful 💧
