☀️ Lighting

Bright indirect light - ideal. But tolerates almost anything! From low to bright light. Avoid strong direct sun - can burn the leaves. Striped varieties need more light to maintain the colors.

💧 Irrigation

Moderate - every 7-10 days. Let the top inch dry out between bags. The fleshy roots store water - tolerate forgetfulness! Tip: Use filtered water - sensitive to fluoride and chlorine (causes brown edges).

💨 Humidity

Does well with normal humidity! No special care is needed. But appreciates occasional spraying, especially in winter when heating dries the air.

🌡️ Temperature

Normal room temperature. 18-24°C is ideal. Do not drop below 10°C. Keep away from cold drafts and direct heat sources (radiators, air conditioners).

Common problems and solutions

🟤 Brown edges

The most common problem! Usually due to: fluoride/chlorine in tap water (use filtered water or let water stand for 24 hours), dry air , or over-fertilization .

💛 Yellow leaves

Most often overwatering . Make sure the soil dries out between waterings and that there is good drainage. It could also be a lack of light or old leaves that are shedding (normal).

🕷️ Does not produce "babies"

The plant needs to be mature (1-2 years) and a bit crowded in the pot to produce seedlings. It also needs enough light. Avoid over-fertilizing - this encourages leaves instead of "babies".

🌿 Pale/faded leaves

A sign of insufficient light , especially in striped varieties. Move to a brighter location. The white stripes will turn greener in low light.

👶 "The Babies" - the famous seedlings!

A mature plant produces long stems with small white flowers, followed by - "babies"! The little seedlings look like little spiders hanging from the mother (hence Spider Plant). You can leave them hanging to create a green waterfall look, or cut them off and plant them - very easy propagation!
