Full sun - 6-8 hours per day! Essential for flowering and fruiting. Young trees need protection from partial shade during the hottest hours. A location sheltered from the wind!

💧 Irrigation

Loves moisture! Keep soil moist but not wet. Water regularly during the growing season. Important trick: Reduce watering 6-8 weeks before flowering - this encourages more flowers!

🌱 Earth

Prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil (pH 5.5-7.5), rich in organic matter. Does not tolerate flooding! Susceptible to root rot. Add compost and perlite.

🌡️ Temperature

Tropical-subtropical! 21-32°C is ideal. Needs hot, humid summers and cool, dry winters. Very sensitive to frost! Young trees are damaged by -0°C. Mature trees tolerate up to -4°C for a short time. In Israel - suitable for the coastal and central regions.

🌸 No blooms / no fruit

Lack of sun or heat! Lychees need a warm, humid summer. Cold stress in winter also encourages flowering. Trick: Stop watering 6-8 weeks before the flowering season.

💛 Yellow/burnt leaves

Young leaves are sensitive to strong direct sunlight - protect in the first few years. Could also be overwatering or hard water (lime). Use rainwater if possible.

💔 Fruits are cracking

Uneven watering! Maintain constant moisture while fruit ripens. Sudden watering after a dry spell causes cracks.

🐛 Pests

Aphids, mites, fruit flies - check regularly. Treat with potassium soap or neem oil. Do not spray during flowering - harms pollinators!

The lychee tree (Litchi chinensis) is a tropical fruit tree from the Saponinaceae family, native to southern China and Southeast Asia. It has been grown for over 2,000 years! The fruit is considered one of the most delicious and exotic in the world.

The fruit: A bumpy, red-pink skin that peels off easily, with a translucent, white flesh inside, juicy and sweet with a unique floral aroma. Reminiscent of strawberry, watermelon and rose! The size of a large grape or small plum.

Evergreen tree: shiny dark green leaves, young leaves red-bronze. Small fragrant flowers in spring. Grows slowly - 30-60 cm per year.

Size: 6-12 meters in Israel, can reach 15 meters and more in tropical climates. Longevity: Can live 100+ years and remain productive for decades. Begins to bear fruit after 3-5 years (complex trees).
