Detailed information on plant care
โญ Growing conditions
lighting
Bright indirect light - an east window is ideal. Avoid direct sun which can burn the delicate leaves and flowers. Not enough light = will not bloom again.
Irrigation
Once a week or so - let the roots dry out between bags. Water in the morning, with lukewarm water. The rule: less is better than too much!
temperature
Ideal: 18-27ยฐC during the day, 15-18ยฐC at night. The temperature difference between day and night encourages flowering! Keep away from cold drafts and air conditioners.
moisture
Likes high humidity (50-70%). Can be placed on a pebble tray with water or next to other plants. Do not spray the flowers!
Growing medium
Special substrate for orchids - bark, sphagnum moss or a special mixture. Not regular soil! The roots need air. A transparent pot is recommended.
๐Ÿ”ง Common problems and solutions
๐ŸŒธ Doesn't bloom again
How to identify: Healthy leaves but no new flowers
Solution: Need more light and a temperature difference between day and night. Fertilize with orchid fertilizer.
๐Ÿ‚ Yellow leaves
How to identify: Lower leaves turning yellow
Solution: One lower leaf - natural. Many leaves = excess water or lack of light
๐Ÿฆ  Rotten roots
How to identify: Brown, soft or fragrant roots
Solution: Excess water! Cut off rotten roots, replace substrate and reduce watering
๐Ÿฅ€ Buds falling
How to identify: Buds fall before they open
Solution: Sudden change of environment, drafts or direct sunlight. Keep stable
๐ŸŒธ Spectacular and long flowering!
โณ Long bloom - the flowers stay beautiful for 2-3 months!
๐ŸŽจ A variety of colors - white, pink, purple, yellow and even spotted
๐Ÿ”„ Blooms repeatedly - with proper care it will bloom once or twice a year
๐Ÿ’• Why will you love the orchid?
๐Ÿพ Pet safe - non-toxic to dogs, cats and horses (ASPCA)
โœจ Elegant and impressive - adds a luxurious touch to any space
๐Ÿ’ง Infrequent watering - about once a week
๐ŸŽ Perfect gift - one of the most popular plants for gifts
๐ŸŒบ Popular types
๐Ÿฆ‹ Phalaenopsis - "Butterfly Orchid" - the most common and easiest to grow
๐ŸŽ Dendrobium - many small flowers on long branches
๐Ÿ‘‘ Cattleya - "Queen of Orchids" - large, fragrant flowers
๐ŸŒŸ Oncidium - "Dancing Orchid" - small yellow flowers
๐Ÿ’ก Pro tip
After the flowers fade, cut the branch above the second or third node from the bottom - there's a chance a new branch with flowers will grow! Green or silver roots = healthy. Brown roots = rot. A clear pot helps you keep an eye on the roots.
