Calathea Insignis (Rattlesnake Plant) is one of the most beautiful and popular Calatheas! Long, narrow, spear-shaped leaves, with wavy margins and a spectacular pattern of dark green spots on a light green background - just like snake skin! The back of the leaf is a deep purple-burgundy. Bonus: Completely pet safe!

🌱 Growing conditions
  • Light: Bright filtered light - near a north or east window. No direct sun!
  • Watering: Regular - keep soil moist but not wet. Let the top layer dry slightly.
  • Water: Sensitive to chlorine and fluoride! Filtered water or rainwater is preferable
  • Humidity: High! Humidifier, pebble tray, or regular misting
  • Temperature: 18-24°C ideal. Not below 15°C
  • Soil: Rich and well-drained - tropical plant mix with perlite
  • Fertilization: Diluted balanced fertilizer once a month in spring-summer
  • Transfer: Once every year or two when the roots fill the pot.
⚠️ Common problems and solutions
  • Brown edges: Problem #1! Air too dry. Increase humidity around the plant
  • Curling leaves: lack of moisture or insufficient watering
  • Yellow leaves: Overwatering! Check drainage and reduce water
  • Faded specimen: Too much direct sun. Move to a more shaded location.
  • Spots on the leaves: Hard water with chlorine. Switch to filtered water.
  • Unpleasant leaves in the evening: The leaf movement (prayer) is natural! At night they fold up
  • Red spider mite: Common in dry air. Regular spraying prevents
  • Slow growth in winter: Natural. Reduce watering and fertilization.

  • Patience: Plants may "rest" for a few weeks before new growth.
💡
Professional tip

The secret to success with Calatheas? Humidity, humidity, humidity! A small humidifier next to the plant works wonders. Quality water: Calatheas are very sensitive to chlorine and fluoride - use filtered water, rainwater, or let tap water stand for 24 hours before using. Leaf movement: Don't panic! The leaves fold up at night and open in the morning - this is a natural movement called "nyctinestia". Ideal location: A bathroom with a window or a kitchen - the natural humidity there is perfect!
