🌵 About Euphorbia enopla
Euphorbia enopla, also known as the "Pincushion Euphorbia", is a rare succulent from South Africa that looks like a cactus – but it isn't one. The long red-burgundy spines arranged in rows along the green stem create a dramatic, eye-catching appearance.

The plant branches from the base to form clusters of green stems surrounded by red spines – a form that resembles medieval weaponry more than a quiet houseplant 😄

Very rare in Israel – an item sought after primarily by plant collectors and euphorbia enthusiasts. Sold abroad in specialized nurseries at high prices.
🌿 Daily Care
☀️
Light
Full sun or bright indirect light. A south-facing balcony is ideal. The more sun it receives, the more the red spines stand out.
💧
Watering
Every two weeks in summer (~50 ml), once a month in winter. Allow the soil to dry out completely. Excess water = rot.
🪴
Soil
Well-draining succulent soil with perlite and sand. Avoid heavy soil that retains moisture.
❓ FAQ
❓ Is it a cactus?
No! Although it looks exactly like a cactus, it belongs to the Euphorbiaceae family. The main difference: when pruned, it releases a milky white sap (latex). Cacti do not have such sap.
❓ Why are the red spines turning brown?
It's perfectly natural – new spines emerge bright red and turn beige-brown with age. The red spines are always on the new growth tips.
❓ Does the plant bloom?
Yes! The flowers are small and appear at the tips of the stems. Male plants have yellow flowers, female plants have dark red flowers.
❓ How big will it grow?
It is a slow grower – in a pot, it will remain compact for years. In the wild, it reaches up to 60 cm. Each stem is up to 3 cm in diameter.
❓ How to propagate?
Cut a stem, rinse the sap with cold water, and let it dry for 3–5 days before planting in dry soil.
