⭐ Growing conditions

Very flexible! - Full sun to partial shade. Prefers at least 6 hours of light per day for optimal growth, but will do well with less.

Irrigation

First year: Regular! - Water 2-3 times a week until established. After that - once a week in summer, less in winter. Relatively drought tolerant but do not let it dry out completely.

ground

Prefers moist, well-drained soil. Grows in any type of soil - sandy, clay, even slightly alkaline. The most important thing: good drainage!

Resistant to extreme cold (up to -40°C!) and Israeli heat. Resistant to air pollution and winds. Perfect for the Israeli climate.

Pruning

Prune in spring or late summer. Shape as needed - maintains columnar shape. Do not prune into old wood (will not regrow from brown wood).

🌍 Origin: North America (Thuja occidentalis)
📏 Height at maturity: 3-5 meters (variety 'Smaragd' / 'Emerald Green')
📐 Width at maturity: only 60-90 cm - very narrow!
🏷️ Name: "Tree of Life" - used by the Indians for medicine
📏 The height and width are those of the mature plant – the size it reaches over time, not the size it is shipped at.

📍 Note on safety

The plant contains essential oils that may cause stomach discomfort if chewed in large quantities. It is recommended to keep away from pets that tend to chew plants, but it is not life-threatening - the symptoms are unpleasant but transient.

💡 Pro tip

For a perfect hedge - plant 60-80 cm apart from each plant. This way you will get a continuous green wall within 2-3 years. Important: Dig a hole twice as large as the root ball and water well in the first year. This is the most important investment!
