Growth Conditions
Lighting
Bright indirect light - A north or east-facing window is ideal. Avoid direct sunlight which can scorch the leaves. It also blooms beautifully under fluorescent lights for 12-14 hours a day!
Watering
Water from below! Place the pot in a saucer of water for 20-30 minutes. Avoid getting the leaves wet! Water when the soil feels dry to the touch, usually every 5-7 days.
Temperature
Ideal: 18-24°C (65-75°F). Room temperature is perfect. Keep away from cold drafts and AC vents. Sensitive to cold - do not let it drop below 15°C.
Humidity
Prefers high humidity (50-60%). Place on a pebble tray with water or near other plants. Do not mist the leaves! - This causes spots.
Fertilizer
Use a specialized African violet fertilizer or a diluted balanced blooming plant fertilizer once a month. Stop in winter. Not blooming? Try a bloom-booster fertilizer!

📜 A bit of history
Discovered in 1892 in Tanzania by Baron Walter von Saint Paul - hence the scientific name Saintpaulia! Despite the name, it's not a true violet, but belongs to the Gesneriaceae family. One of the most popular flowering house plants in the world.
💡 Pro tip
It is very easy to propagate! Simply cut a healthy leaf with its stem, plant it in moist soil or place it in water, and within 3-4 weeks small plants will develop at the base. This way you can get new plants for free or give them as gifts!
