Sowing Guide - Step by Step
1
☀️ Choosing a location
Choose an area with full sun or partial shade. Beetroot is relatively tolerant to different light conditions!
2
🪴 Preparing the soil
Fill the soil/container with a well-drained potting mix. Beetroot loves soft soil - do not compact!
3
🕳️ Creating holes
Create holes 1 cm deep. 10 cm spacing between each hole.
4
🌱 Sowing
Place one seed in each hole and cover gently with soil.
5
💧 First watering
Water gently until the soil is moist. Do not flood!
6
🌿 Germination and care
After germination - continue regular watering. Maintain 10 cm spacing between plants (thin if necessary).
7
💧 Ongoing watering
Keep the soil evenly moist. Avoid flooding! Beetroot is sensitive to excess water.
8
🥬 Harvest!
About 90 days from sowing. You can harvest partially when the bulb is the size of a small fist, or wait for full maturity. The leaves are edible - you can harvest those too!
Success Tips
💧 Even moisture!
Keep the soil evenly moist. Dryness or excess water can cause cracked or deformed beetroots.
🚫 Avoid flooding!
Beetroot is sensitive to excess water! Good drainage is essential. If the soil is too wet - the bulbs will rot.
☀️ Summer shading
In summer, it is recommended to provide light shading during hot hours. Beetroot does not like extreme heat.
🧪 Gentle fertilization
Fertilize with gentle fertilizer once every two weeks. Don't overdo it - excess nitrogen produces leaves at the expense of the bulb.
🪨 Soft soil!
Beetroot loves soft soil - do not compact the ground! Hard soil = small, deformed bulbs.
🥬 Leaves are edible!
The leaves are delicious and healthy! You can harvest them gently for salads or cooking. 2 vegetables for the price of 1!
