Growing Conditions
☀️ Lighting
Bright indirect light - near a window, but avoiding direct sun which can scorch the leaves. The brighter the light, the more the plant will bloom! If the plant isn't flowering, try moving it to a brighter spot.
💧 Watering
Water when the top 2-3 cm of soil is dry. Usually every 2-3 weeks. It is crucial not to leave the soil too wet - overwatering causes root rot! Wrinkled leaves = needs water. Yellow leaves = too much water.
💨 Humidity
Hailing from tropical rainforests, it loves high humidity! A bright bathroom is a perfect location. You can also place it on a pebble tray with water or mist it occasionally. 50-60% humidity is ideal.
🌡️ Temperature
Ideal temperature: 18-27°C. It does not tolerate cold - below 15°C the plant suffers and stops blooming. Keep away from AC units, heaters, and cold drafts. The plant is sensitive to sudden temperature changes.
Common Issues & Solutions
🌸 Not blooming
The most common cause is a lack of light. Solution: move to a brighter spot with indirect light. Flowering occurs mainly in summer and early autumn.
🍂 Yellow, dropping leaves
Usually due to overwatering or low humidity. Solution: ensure the soil dries between waterings, increase air humidity, and ensure good drainage.
💦 Root rot
Caused by soil staying wet too long. Solution: use well-draining soil (African violet mix is great), a pot with drainage holes, and only water when the soil is dry.
🐛 Mealybugs & Whiteflies
Pests that may appear on the plant. Solution: wipe leaves with a damp cloth, spray with neem oil, and regularly check the undersides of leaves.

Plant Information

Aeschynanthus radicans 'Mona Lisa' is one of the most beautiful varieties of the Lipstick Plant. It originates from the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, where it grows as an epiphyte on tree trunks.

The name "Lipstick Plant" comes from the unique shape of its flowers - tubular red blossoms emerging from dark calyxes, looking exactly like lipstick coming out of the tube! The 'Mona Lisa' variety is famous for its particularly striking red-orange flowers.

This is a trailing plant that can reach lengths of up to a meter, making it perfect for hanging planters or high shelves. With proper care, it can bloom almost all year round, with peak flowering in late summer and early autumn.

💡 Pro Tip
Want more flowers? Prune the plant lightly after blooming - this encourages new growth and further flowering! The cuttings you trim can be propagated in water or damp soil to create new plants. The secret to a full, dense plant: pinching the stem tips encourages branching. And most importantly - do not move the plant when it has buds; it is sensitive to changes and may drop them! 💄
