Growing conditions
☀️ Lighting
Bright indirect light - near a window but not in direct sunlight which can burn the leaves. The brighter the light, the more the plant will bloom! If the plant is not blooming - try moving it to a brighter location.
💧 Irrigation
Water when the top 2-3 cm of soil is dry. Usually every 2-3 weeks. It is very important not to leave the soil too wet - overwatering causes root rot! Wrinkled leaves = need water. Yellow leaves = too much water.
💨 Humidity
It comes from the tropical rainforests and loves high humidity! A bright bathroom is a perfect location. You can also place it on a tray of pebbles with water, or spray it occasionally. 50-60% humidity is ideal.
🌡️ Temperature
Ideal temperature: 18-27°C. Does not tolerate cold - below 15°C the plant suffers and stops blooming. Keep away from air conditioners, heating vents and cold drafts. The plant is sensitive to sudden temperature changes.
Common problems and solutions
🌸 Not blooming
The most common cause is lack of light. Solution: Move to a brighter location with bright indirect light. Flowering occurs mainly in summer and early fall.
🍂 Yellow and falling leaves
Usually from overwatering or low humidity. Solution: Check that the soil dries out between waterings, increase humidity in the air, ensure good drainage.
💦 Root rot
Caused by soil that is too wet for a long time. Solution: Well-drained soil (a mix for African violets is excellent), a pot with drainage holes, watering only when the soil is dry.
🐛 Flour aphids and moth aphids
Pests that may appear on the plant. Solution: Wipe leaves with a damp cloth, spray with neem oil, regularly inspect the underside of the leaves.

Plant information

Aeschynanthus radicans 'Mona Lisa' is one of the most beautiful varieties of the Lipstick Plant. It originates from the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, where it grows as an epiphyte on tree trunks.

The name "lipstick plant" comes from the unique shape of the flowers - tubular red flowers that emerge from dark calyxes, looking just like lipstick coming out of a tube! The 'Mona Lisa' variety is famous for its particularly striking red-orange flowers.

The plant is sprawling and can reach up to a meter in length, making it perfect for hanging pots or high shelves. With proper care, it can bloom almost all year round, with peak bloom in late summer and early fall.

💡 Pro tip
Want more flowers? Prune the plant lightly after flowering - this encourages new growth and additional flowering! The cuttings you prune can be rooted in water or moist soil to create new plants. The secret to a full and dense plant: pinching the ends of the stems encourages branching. And most importantly - do not move the plant when it has buds on it, it is sensitive to changes and may shed them! 💄
