Plant Information
Liriope (Liriope muscari), also known as "monkey grass" or "lilyturf," is an evergreen perennial plant of the Asparagaceae family. It is native to East Asia - China, Japan, and Taiwan.
The plant forms dense clumps of long, narrow leaves that resemble ornamental grass, and in late summer, it produces purple-blue flower spikes reminiscent of hyacinths. After flowering, shiny black berries develop, which persist until winter.
Its scientific name is taken from a Greek nymph named Liriope, who was the mother of Narcissus. The plant reaches a height of 30-45 cm and similar width, making it perfect as a border plant, ground cover, or even a lawn substitute in shaded areas.
When the clumps become crowded after a few years, you can divide them and replant them to get more plants.
โ What is the size of the plant at maturity?
About 30-45 cm in height and width.
