✂️
Why Dichondra instead of regular grass? Regular grass requires mowing every two weeks, monthly fertilization, and lots of water. Dichondra — never needs mowing. It maintains a low, even height naturally, survives in shade where grass won't grow, and creates a dense green carpet that looks effortlessly manicured.
🌱 Sowing Instructions — Step-by-Step ▼

Step 1 — Soil Preparation: Rake the soil to create a level, loose surface. It is recommended to spread compost and apply soil pest treatment before sowing.

Step 2 — Sowing: Scatter seeds at a rate of 5–7 grams per sqm. For manual sowing, mix with dry sand for more uniform distribution. A dedicated spreader can also be used.

Step 3 — Covering: Lightly rake to cover the seeds with about 0.5 cm of soil. This protects them from drying out and from ants.

Step 4 — Watering: Keep the soil surface moist until germination — water gently every day so as not to wash away the seeds. Initial germination usually appears within 10–21 days.

Ideal Sowing Time: Spring and Autumn — mild temperatures encourage fast germination. In the Israeli summer, germination is slower.

📐 Coverage Table — How many seeds do you need? ▼
Seed Amount Estimated Coverage
50 grams approx. 10 sqm
100 grams approx. 20 sqm
250 grams approx. 40–50 sqm
500 grams approx. 80–100 sqm

* The estimated area is based on a rate of 5–6 grams per sqm. In areas with hard soil, it is recommended to increase to 7 grams per sqm.

💡 Post-Germination Tips ▼

Watering after establishment: Once established, Dichondra is resilient — water according to soil condition rather than a fixed schedule. It is resistant to short dry spells.

Fertilizer: Once a season with a balanced fertilizer is sufficient. Dichondra is not particularly "hungry" and grows well even in relatively poor soil.

Initial weeding: In the first few weeks before the Dichondra covers the entire area, some weeds may sprout. Pull them by hand — do not use chemical herbicides as they will damage the young Dichondra.

Dichondra in Summer: In extreme Israeli heat, growth may slow and it might yellow slightly — this is normal. With the arrival of Autumn, it recovers and renews itself.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you walk on Dichondra? +
Yes — Dichondra is tolerant of light to moderate foot traffic. It is suitable for garden paths, lounge areas, and between stepping stones. It is less resilient than regular grass for intense traffic (such as children's games).
How long until germination? +
Under optimal conditions (Spring/Autumn, moist soil) — initial germination appears within 10–14 days. In summer or cold weather — up to 21 days. Full coverage of the area is achieved within 6–10 weeks from sowing.
Is Dichondra suitable for full shade? +
Yes — this is one of its major advantages. In full shade where regular grass would not survive, Dichondra succeeds. In full shade, it will grow more slowly with relatively smaller leaves, but will still create a beautiful green cover.
Can it be grown in pots or planters? +
Absolutely — Dichondra creates a beautiful look in pots and planters as it spills over the sides. It is also suitable for balconies. Ensure good drainage in the pot and regular watering.
