✨ Begonia Maurizzi - Pink Diamond
A stunning Cane/Angel Wing begonia with large, angel wing-shaped leaves in a metallic pink shade , covered in sparkling silver dots ! The veins are dark olive-green and the underside is deep red - each leaf is a work of art!
A hybrid between Begonia 'Torch' and a rare Philippine variety. Grows quickly and branches beautifully , can reach a height of about a meter! In good conditions it also produces small pink flowers. Also called "Miss Mummy".
Metallic pink with silver dots - looks like it came out of a fairy tale! Each leaf can reach 20 cm in length.
The colors intensify with bright light - in ideal light, a silvery edging even appears around the leaves!
One of the fastest plants in the begonia group. Branches beautifully and fills out - gives a sense of accomplishment!
In good conditions, it produces clusters of small pink flowers - a bonus beyond the stunning foliage!
Unlike other begonias, the Mauritian tolerates heat relatively well - an advantage in the Israeli climate!
The rule: more bright light (not direct!) = more pink and more silver dots!
Bright light + gentle sun
Close to a large window
High humidity = heaven!
An impressive statement!
In summer, dappled shade
Ideal humidity
⚠️ Avoid: strong direct sunlight (you will burn!), dark place (you will lose color), weak air circulation (susceptible to mold in winter).
Water when the top 5 cm of soil is dry.
Summer: Once a week | Winter: Once a week or two
💡 Saggy leaves = thirsty! Yellow leaves = too much water.
Bright indirect light - the more, the stronger the colors!
A little morning/afternoon sun - great. Direct afternoon sun - no!
Less than 3 feet from a window = ideal.
Prefers high humidity (50-70%) but also tolerates normal household humidity (40%+) .
Dry edges = humidity too low. A pebble tray will help!
⚠️ Needs good airflow - susceptible to mold!
18-27°C - Comfortable room temperature. Tolerates heat relatively well! Does not tolerate cold below 13°C.
Rich, drained soil: 45% soil + 25% perlite + 20% peat + 10% charcoal/compost.
Diluted fertilizer every two weeks in spring-summer for rapid growth.
Pinch off the ends in spring to encourage branching. This begonia branches nicely on its own, but pruning creates a fuller, more lush plant!
In winter, when the air is cold and humid - susceptible to mold (Powdery Mildew). Ensure good air circulation, a warm and bright place!
It's easy to propagate from stem cuttings! Cut below a node, place in water or moist soil - roots within weeks.
Named after Maurice Amey, a member of the American Begonia Society. Also called "Miss Mummy" (incorrectly!) and "Miss Mummy". Sister to Begonia 'Benigo'!

💡 Tip: Want the strongest pink color? Give it lots of bright light (not direct!) - the more light there is, the more pink the leaves become and the silvery edges appear around them!
