The colored ball above is a rare mutation that lacks chlorophyll - so it's not green! The bright colors (red, orange, yellow, pink) are the natural pigments that are exposed without the green.
Because the colorful part cannot produce energy on its own, it is mounted on a green cactus (usually Hylocereus - dragon fruit cactus) which provides it with food!
