Sowing Guide - Step by Step

๐ฑ Preparing the sprouting tray
Fill a planting tray or small pots with good quality potting soil. Moisten lightly before sowing.

Place 2-3 seeds in each cell at a depth of 0.5-1 cm . Cover with a thin layer of soil and press gently.

๐ง Irrigation and humidity
Water gently (spray or thin funnel). Keep consistently moist - not too wet! You can cover with clear plastic until germination.

๐ก๏ธ Heat for germination
Tomatoes need heat to germinate! 21-29ยฐC is ideal. A warm place in the house or near a heat source.

๐ฟ The sprout!
Within 5-14 days you will see sprouts! Remove the cover and move to a bright place. If several sprouts have grown in the cell - leave only the strongest one.

Seedlings need lots of light! 14-16 hours a day. South window or grow light. Lack of light = long, weak seedlings.

When the seedlings are 6-8 weeks old and have 4-6 true leaves - they are ready! Harden them off for 7-10 days before planting outside.

It is a must to support the plant! Large tomatoes can reach 1.5-2 meters. Cage, pegs or netting - install early!

๐งช Fertilization and irrigation
Fertilize tomatoes every 2-3 weeks . Deep and regular watering - important! Irregular watering = cracked fruit.

Picking!
When the tomatoes are evenly colored, firm but give slightly to the touch - they are ready! Gently pick with the petiole. Usually 65-90 days from planting.
Tips for success
โ๏ธ Full sun = necessary!
Tomatoes need at least 6-8 hours of sun a day! The more sun - the more fruit and the sweeter it will be.
๐ง Deep and regular watering
Water at the base of the plant , not on the leaves! Irregular watering causes cracked fruit and "flower tip rot."
โ๏ธ "Mammal" pruning
Remove side branches ("suckers") that grow between the stem and the branch. This directs energy to the fruit!

Remove leaves below the first fruit cluster. Improves ventilation and prevents disease!
