Black-Eyed Susan is a charming climber that will cover your fence, pergola, or trellis in a cascade of yellow-orange flowers with a spectacular black "eye" in the center. Blooms profusely throughout the summer and into the fall, grows quickly, and is very easy to grow. The English name "Black-Eyed Susan" accurately describes its unique appearance. Perfect for creating a colorful and happy corner on a balcony or garden!

🌱 Growing conditions
  • Light: Full sun - at least 6 hours a day. In partial shade it will bloom less.
  • Watering: Regular and consistent. Likes moist but not wet soil. In hot summer - every day or two.
  • Support: Needs support to climb on - trellis, fence, wires or pergola
  • Temperature: Likes heat 18-30°C. Sensitive to frost - in Israel grown as an annual
  • Soil: rich, well-drained, with compost
  • Fertilization: Fertilizer for flowering once every two weeks throughout the growing season
⚠️ Common problems and solutions
  • Few blooms: Lack of sun! Move to a brighter location or fertilize for blooms.
  • Yellow leaves: Overwatering or poor drainage. Check that the water is draining.
  • Curled or dry leaves: lack of watering, especially on hot days
  • The plant does not climb: it needs to be directed and tied to a support at first.
  • Aphids: Check under the leaves. Treat with potassium soap or pressurized water.
  • Powdery mildew (white powder): Improve ventilation, reduce watering on the leaves

Professional tip

Collect seeds for next year! At the end of the season, small seed capsules form. Let them dry on the plant, collect and store in a cool, dry place. Plant indoors in early spring and outside after the last frosts. That way you can enjoy it year after year for free!
