What is volcanic tuff? Tuff is a porous volcanic rock formed from solidified lava. Its pores store air and moisture simultaneously — making it an ideal growing medium. Its characteristic red color is due to a high concentration of iron oxides. The 20–50 mm size is especially suitable for top-dressing pots and drainage — large granules that create pleasant air gaps.
