🍈 The biggest fruit!
The pomelo is the largest citrus fruit in the world ! A single fruit can reach 15-25 cm in diameter and weigh 1-2 kg! The peel is very thick (up to 3-4 cm), and the flesh is sweet and less sour than a grapefruit. A refreshing and unique taste!
💚 Why grow pomelo?
🍈 Huge fruits - impressive and special
🌸 Fragrant - fragrant white blooms
🌳 Ornamental tree - beautiful evergreen
💪 Durable - relatively strong compared to citrus trees
🎨 Flesh colors
White/light yellow - most common, sweet
Pink - sweeter, popular in Asia
Red - rare and sought after, the sweetest!
📜 A little about the tree
🌍 Origin: Southeast Asia (Malaysia, Thailand)
📏 Height: 5-15 meters
🏷️ Scientific name: Citrus maxima / Citrus grandis
👨👩👧👦 Family: Rutaceae (Citrus family)
🌸 Flowering: Spring, fruiting in winter
⚠️ Please note - pets
Like all citrus trees, the peel, leaves, seeds, and essential oils of pomelos are toxic to dogs and cats. They contain psoralens and oils that can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and depression. The flesh itself is safe in small amounts (but the sugar and acidity can cause stomach upset). Recommended: Do not leave peels or fallen fruit within reach of animals.
💡 Pro tip
Citrus Fertilization: Fertilize 3-4 times a year with a special citrus fertilizer (rich in nitrogen and iron). Do not fertilize in winter! Pruning: Prune weak and dead branches, maintain an open shape to the light. Picking: The fruit is ripe when the peel turns yellow and gives slightly to pressure. Pomelo improves after picking - store indoors for a week or two 🍈
