The white stripes on the leaves are areas lacking chlorophyll — the more light, the more prominent and beautiful the stripes will be. In low light, the plant will grow greener leaves to compensate for the lack of energy.

The plant grows very quickly — new stems appear almost every week. Trimming back long stems encourages denser, fuller growth.

Trim off leaves that have turned entirely green without stripes; this will encourage the plant to attempt new striped growth.

The Tradescantia 'White Stripe' is neither a desert plant nor a tropical water-lover — it likes steady, balanced moisture. Water when the top centimeters of the soil are dry — not before and not after.

Signs: Wrinkled leaves losing firmness = Thirst. Yellowing, dropping leaves = Overwatering. The plant will tell you what it needs.

In summer — every 5–7 days. In winter — every 10–14 days. Always ensure proper drainage.

Tradescantia is one of the easiest plants in the world to propagate. Simply cut an 8–10 cm stem with at least 2–3 leaves, remove the lower leaves, and place it in a glass of water — roots will grow within one to two weeks.

You can also plant it directly into the soil — the stem will root easily. Want a dense and lush pot? Place 4–5 cuttings into the same container.

A regular Tradescantia (Tradescantia zebrina) has silver-purple leaves. The 'White Stripe' is a variety of Tradescantia fluminensis — featuring green leaves with delicate creamy-white stripes and reddish stems. It has a more subtle, minimalist look than the purple Tradescantia.

The plant comes in a plastic nursery pot — and our recommendation is to keep it there. A nursery pot provides optimal drainage and aeration. You can place it on a high shelf for a cascading effect, or hang it using a hanger hook.
