Growing conditions
☀️ Lighting
Succulents love light! They need at least 6 hours of bright light per day. Ideal location: South or West facing windowsill. Lack of light causes the plant to elongate and lose color (etiolation). Colorful succulents (red, purple) need more light than green ones.
💧 Irrigation - "soak and dry" method
The golden rule: Water abundantly and let the soil dry completely before the next watering! Usually every 2-3 weeks. In winter - less. Do not spray! Overwatering is the most common mistake and causes rot. Wrinkled leaves = thirst. Yellow/soft leaves = too much water.
🌱 Earth
Well-drained soil is critical! A mix for succulents and cacti, or regular soil with the addition of perlite and sand (50:25:25). A pot with drainage holes is a must! Terracotta pots are excellent because they dry quickly.
🌡️ Temperature
Ideal temperature: 15-27°C. Most succulents do not tolerate frost! In winter, they should be brought indoors or covered. There are cold-resistant varieties (sempervivum, certain sedums). Low humidity is preferable - they come from arid regions.
Common problems and solutions
💦 Root rot
The most common problem! Caused by overwatering. Signs: Soft stem, yellow/transparent leaves. Solution: Well-drained soil, pot with holes, let dry completely between waterings.
📏 Elongation (Etiolation)
The plant grows long and looks "skinny" with gaps between the leaves. Caused by lack of light. Solution: Move to a brighter location. Can be cut and re-rooted.
🐛 Flour aphids
White "woolly" insects between the leaves. Solution: Wipe with medical alcohol, spray with neem oil, isolate from other plants. Also check the soil!
☀️ Sunburn
Brown or white spots on leaves. Caused by sudden exposure to direct sunlight. Solution: Gradually acclimate to strong light, protect from midday sun in summer.

Information about plants

Succulents are a diverse group of plants that have evolved to store water in their leaves, stems, or roots. The word "succulent" comes from the Latin "sucus" meaning "juice." They come from arid regions around the world - deserts, mountains, and seashores.

Popular varieties: Echeveria with colorful rosettes, Haworthia with white stripes, Sansevieria (mother-in-law's tongue) for low light, Crassula (silver tree) for longevity, Aloe for healing properties, and Sedum in a variety of interesting shapes.

Interesting fact: All cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are cacti! The difference: Cacti have thorns and no leaves, while many other succulents boast fleshy leaves in amazing shapes and colors.

💡 Professional breeding tip
Succulents are very easy to propagate! From leaves: Simply pluck a healthy leaf, let it dry for a day or two, and place it on slightly damp soil. Within weeks, roots and a new plant will grow! From "puppies": Most succulents produce small seedlings at the base that can be separated and planted separately. From cuttings: Cut off the top, let the cutting dry, and plant. Magic! 🪄
