Growing conditions
☀️ Lighting
Full sun to partial shade. Prefers 6+ hours of light. Indoors - near a bright window or supplemental lighting. More light = more flowers. Tolerates partial shade but will bloom less.
💧 Irrigation
Loves water very much! Keep soil moist at all times - will not tolerate dryness even for a moment! Can grow in shallow water, ponds, and even an aquarium. Perfect for hanging baskets with frequent watering.
🌱 Earth
Moist, rich soil. Sandy, loamy or clay - as long as it retains moisture! pH 6.0-7.5. Add compost or peat to improve. Also tolerates slightly salty water (coastal pools). Drainage is less important - likes moisture!
🌡️ Temperature
Tropical - loves heat! Ideal 20-30°C. Does not tolerate cold below 15°C! In Israel - in summer can be outside, in winter bring inside. Not frost resistant at all. High humidity preferred.
Common problems and solutions
🥀 Brown/dry parts
The most common reason: dryness! The boxwood does not tolerate dryness at all. Even a short dryness causes damage. Prune dry parts and increase watering. Dry parts will not recover - cut.
💛 Yellow leaves
Could be iron deficiency - fertilize with fertilizer with iron. Also excessive watering (rare!) or water that is too hard. Try rainwater or filtered water.
🌱 Long, thin stems
Lack of light! The box needs bright light for lush growth. Move to a brighter location. Light pruning encourages more lush growth.
🌿 Excessive spread
In a pot, it can spread very quickly in good conditions! Prune regularly to maintain shape. In ponds - monitor spread and remove excess.
