☀️ Lighting

Full sun - 6-8 hours a day. Sun = more flowers! In Israel in the summer, afternoon shade is a good idea to protect from the extreme heat. Morning sun + afternoon shade = perfect combination.

💧 Irrigation

Keep soil moist but not wet. Water when the top layer dries out. Do not overwater! Stem rot is the main danger. Excellent drainage is essential.

🪴 Land

Fertile, well-drained soil. Add compost to existing soil. In pots - a quality soil mix with perlite. Soil rich in organic matter = richer blooms.

🌡️ Temperature

Loves coolness! 15-21°C is ideal. Hardens in heat above 27°C. In Israel, blooms best in spring and fall. Sensitive to frost - not below 4°C.

💛 Yellow/brown leaves

A sign of heatstroke! Nemesia struggles in high temperatures. Move to partial shade in the afternoon, water more, and wait for it to cool down.

🌸 Stopped blooming

Plant information

Nemesia is a lovely flowering plant from the family Nemesiaceae. It is native to South Africa (the Cape region) and is also called "Cape Snapdragon" or "Cape Jewels".

Special flowers: Small trumpet-shaped flowers with lips - reminiscent of tiny orchids! They come in almost every color: white, pink, red, orange, yellow, blue, purple - and even bicolors. The blooms are so abundant that you can barely see the leaves!

Smell: A sweet and delicate scent like honey or vanilla, intensifies in the evening and attracts pollinators!

Size: 15-50 cm tall, depending on the variety. There are upright varieties for the garden and pots and sprawling varieties perfect for hanging baskets and window boxes.
